Blue collar girl
Blue collar girl
Omar Abdul Hamid
I still remember that strange gathering of our relatives in our house on the day my father and mother went to collect my sister from the city police station. They all came to our house early that morning in order to see the new baby, and they gathered around the TV screen listening to the long list of names that was recited by a young announcer. Until my father and mother returned, before they cheered when that announcer mentioned my sister's name, I asked my aunt in astonishment what was happening:
Did you gather like this on the day my father and mother went to fetch me from the city?!
She said:
"No, your mother and father didn't even go to town to pick you up. You're just like the rest of the village children. Your parents pick you up at the local village station. Suzanne's is a bit different. She's a blue-collar woman."
Before she sighed, and added in a distracted tone:
God sent that baby to our family just in the nick of time
