Tolstoy wrote this book in defense of the truth in the face of the forgery and fabrication that befell the Islamic religion and the Prophet Muhammad - may God bless him and grant him peace - at the hands of missionary associations in Kazan, who portrayed the Islamic religion in a way that is not true, and attached to it what is not in it. So Tolstoy presented the argument and established the proof against the claimants when he chose a group of hadiths of the Prophet, and he mentioned them after an introduction of great importance and clear intent in which he said that the teachings of the owner of Islamic law are sublime wisdom and sermons that lead man to the right path, and are not less than the teachings of the Christian religion, and that Muhammad is the founder and messenger of the Islamic religion, that religion to which two hundred million souls are worshiped in all parts of the globe (the time of writing the book). In his last book, Tolstoy promised that he would write a large book entitled “Muhammad” in which he would discuss more topics.
