The religion of instinct
The religion of instinct
Jean-Jacques Rousseau
I did not choose arbitrarily the text originally titled “The Doctrine of a Priest from the Mountains of the Savoy” for translation into Arabic. This choice is subject to a monetary plan which I have mentioned on several occasions. I have previously said that Western thought did not come close to representing Islamic thought except once, and that was in the middle of the eighteenth century AD. Before that date, the barrier was religious belief, and after that, the barrier was the blocking of colonialism.
What is the benefit, then, for us, Arabic readers, of translating the text of Jean-Jacques Rousseau? It is useful for us to do a certain mental experiment that helps us understand Rousseau's book and Islamic writings similar to it.
Rousseau draws for himself here a simple, clear, and sincere belief that reconciles reason and conscience, guaranteeing tranquility for the individual and for society, unity and stability.
